Make a wedding video with these 3 photography tips

wedding video slideshowWhile June has traditionally been the most popular month for weddings – there is the idea that the weather is better, the days are longer, and there is a wider variety of flowers out in the gardens. There’s also a cultural aspect – June weddings go back to Roman times. It’s something we’ve always done.

We at muvee have seen a recent trend of planning weddings throughout the summer, and even into September.

For much of North America and Europe, the summer months typically enjoy better and drier weather, meaning it’s possible to plan for an outdoor wedding and take some fantastic photos to perhaps provide a more subtly personal angle than photos provided by a hired wedding photographer.

However, taking great photos (ideally to make muvee videoslideshows!) doesn’t come easily – that’s why we hire wedding photographers. How do wedding photographers do it?

Here are some tips for taking great wedding photos:

1) Think about the photos you want to shoot
Quality, memorable photos are rarely if ever capture spontaneously and by chance. Every great photo you’ve ever seen has likely been the result of planning, planning and more planning.

In the case of weddings, take a look at the venue. Where are some great places for a photo? How is the light? Importantly, how will the light be when you actually take a photo?

2) Always have a backup plan
In life, things never go quite as we expect it. For all of the planning we do, nothing will work if the conditions we anticipated in the first place aren’t just right. For example, you can plan out the wedding shots all you like, take light meter readings, and everything else, but what if it rains?

So, think of some backup locations that make equally memorable photos in case it’s raining, or it’s overly windy. Of course this means making sure you understand how to take photos indoors that will actually look good.

Which leads us to…

3) Understand your camera
Many cameras these days have excellent automatic controls that take excellent pictures. However, not every camera will automatically take great photos in less than optimum lighting conditions

Often, powerful flashes will was out your subject, or the CCD may not be of high enough quality to capture a range of skin tones.

The best thing to do is to a) invest in a camera that has some manual controls, and b) understand how to use them.

Learn how focal length, f-stop, and shutter speed all interact together to create various effects on your particular digital camera. All digital cameras have slightly different characteristics, so take the time to learn more!

Photography may just become a passion in your life.
